Homemade afternoon tea for 8?

Unsure on sandwich fillings, whether to do plan or fruit scones and which cakes!

I'd do ham and cucumber, cheese and tomato, egg and cress sandwiches.

Plain scones with jam and cream, chocolate cake, and something fruity. Fruit kebabs??Fruit tarts???
If there are kids, do some Krispie cakes.

This recipe for scones on Bbc Good Food by Jane Hornby is brilliant...I have found if you do plain scones, people who like fruit ones will still eat them, but if you do fruit ones, people who dislike the fruit won't eat them, so I always go for plain.

For the cakes, mini eclairs always go down very well...I use a recipe by Eric Lansard that was on a baking programme a few years ago, can't find the recipe on the web but is the clip on you tube of him making them.

DSis and I are planning an 80th afternoon birthday tea for DM we've considered the following: beef and horseradish, cream cheese and cucumber, egg and cress, egg and watercress, smoked salmon and cream cheese, ham and mustard.
We will do fruit, plain and cheese scones because DDad loves a cheesy scone. Victoria sponge and/or lemon drizzle traybake. Obviously lots of cream and naice jam.

I was reading a barefoot contessa cookbook last night and she said that the best sandwich was homous spread on bread with tuna mayo spread on top.......I've got such a bad cold I can't taste anything so I can't try it out, though..probably one best to road test before giving it to guests

Cucumber and gentlemans relish sandwiches are a must for afternoon tea. When you are making finger sandwiches slice your loaf end to end - so fewer longer slices from the loaf. Makes neater sandwiches somehow.

Mini fruit pavlova, small eclairs, meringue with coloured swirls in and macaroons always look pretty. I've got the Lakeland mini sandwich tin and do small Victoria sandwich cakes or mini cheesecakes.

For sandwich fillings I'd go for one meat, one cheese, one egg and one fish.
Probably
Ham and mustard
Cheddar and tomato
Egg and cress
Cream cheese and smoked salmon.
If you have veggies I'd probably do an additional veggie filling.

Cakes I'd do mini fruit tarts, lemon drizzle and millionaire shortbread.
