I think you will find it very hard to control 'pork intake' as DS gets older. I'm a veggie and I sometimes feel like a complete pedant when being cooked for and someone uses 'Stork' margarine with fish oils in or offers me a dessert with gelatine in. Unfortuntely the damn stuff is everywhere.

oops there are veggie alternatives, although I don't think haribo do them, where do you live? I know some of the larger ethnic supermarkets that sell imported goods and halal meat also sell imported sweets such as haribo and other makes made for muslim countries, I know the local arab shop here sells them as I too cannot bear the thought of eating melted pigs! yuk It's worth a try. Or alternatively there are some online shops where you might be able to get them
try this one it looks good.

hmmm on second thought maybe it is more for retailers, you get free delivery for orders over £75, can't emagine anyone wanting that many sweets for home!! lol

our local asda sells them, I presumed they would be everywhere

if you are that bothered about it though, you shouldn't have let him have them

dd1 brings stuff back from playgroup, I take them off her and put them in the cupboard and say no

I was going to suggest what Twiglett said.

In DDs class there are quite a few children with allergies/intolerances etc (coeliac, nut allergy, problems with specific additives, PKU etc) -they each have a labelled tub of sweets provided by parents for these times. Saves a lot of tears!

I think handing a bag of suitable sweets into the teacher is a good way of making your point without too much hassle, explain why you prefer them and leave it at that perhaps.

What is it with Haribo? They seem to be the default sweet of choice..ds1 or ds2 come out of school with a pack pretty much every week, it seems. And we do eat pork - I just think Haribo are yuck.

the preschool should have a policy regarding this. Esp. as it is so important to respect dietary choices. At our preschool we had suitable sweets to substitute in these occasions but did try and specify that if sweets are to be bought in they are to be vegetarian - it is not that hard to do.

If it was a nut allergy it would have been carefully considered.
