Struggling with inspiration for a knockout NYE dessert. Needs to be something I can make fully in advance and take somewhere so no last minute assembly etc. It's for adults only so can be boozy Smile Any ideas? TiA

Croqembouche!
My partner made one using a cone of card to stick the profiteroles together.
Did spun sugar around it and it was amazing!

Ooh - can you make croquembouche a few hours ahead though? Does it go a bit soggy? Love making profiteroles so have often fancied trying this.

Nigella's chocolate cherry trifle. So good. I'm making it today!

Thanks - don't suppose you can recall which recipe he used? I see delia has one - may try that as she's usually pretty reliable.

That trifle looks yummy too - will defo try that another time - need a new trifle dish first!

I think it was the delia one!

I think it was the delia one! Either that or the masterchef Australia one (worth a google!)

I'm going to be making marbelled mousse from a Green and Blacks recipe book, with Green and Blacks chocolate - yum!

I'm doing a slow cooker chocolate fondue, prepping all the dippy bits beforehand and then just bung it in. A boozy one would be great

The James Martin festive delice fits all your criteria perfectly!

I made a pavlova inspired by this recently and it went down really well. I used my usual meringue recipe, nigella's salted caramel sauce, cut the apples smaller than in her photos and didn't use any pecans. It was so good. cookienameddesire.com/salted-caramel-apple-pie-pavlova/

Those pavlova look amazing - just not sure how they'd cope with being made several hours ahead, transported etc. May make one next time I'm hosting. Off to Google the festive delice! Thanks for the ideas everyone - v helpful!!

I think they'd be fine being made ahead but I would transport all the bits separately and assemble when I got there. Keep the meringue on your lap!

Make a knockout chocolate cake and cover it in chocolates.

Cover the sides in something like matchmakers to give you a collar and throw on loads of chocolates. Like roses/milk tray/posh truffles/whatever floats your boat. Whip cream and take in a piping bag.

Seriously easy and impressive?

Has anyone made the James Martin Delice? Just wondering if lining the chef's ring/ Spring form cake ring with grease proof paper would make it easier to remove? Any other tips?

I made/assembled my pavlova a good few hours ahead (actually made all of the components the night before) and transported it in one of those cake carriers, with a splodge of cream holding it in place, on my daughter's lap for the hour car journey. It held up completely fine and was just served from the base of the carrier a couple of hours after we arrived. If I didn't have the carrier I'd probably have put it on a plate/cake board with cream to hold it in place and then made a tent of foil over it. I definitely think it would be easier than a croqembouche to transport!

I've made something similar to James Martin's delice before though, and that went down very well too. And chocolate cake is generally well liked. As is cheesecake. Maybe my family and friends are just easily pleased when it comes to dessert.
