Your absolute favourite slow cooker recipe?

bullshift · 17/10/2016 20:12

Now that autumn has landed I've dusted off the slow cooker. I'm using it about three times a week, but my repertoire is fairly limited. I'm not an extravagant cook by any means.

I've done tagines, casseroles, beef roasts and a curry but looking for more inspiration.

Please can you share your favourite fool-proof slow cooker recipes? Thanks Smile

Chipotle brisket served with sweet potato wedges and salad. Get a brisket, chuck it in with a tin of chopped to,atoms, some garlic, onion, chilli powder, salt, pepper, pinch of sugar and a dried chipotle chilli (or whatever spices you like). Cook on low for about 7 hours - delicious.

I do a beef stew as well but make a cobbler topping, leave it in the slow cooker to cook through the last 10 mins under the grill to crisp up.

sainsburys be good to yourself gammon joint, (no others are as nice!), cooked on low for 6-8 hours and then finish for half an hour in a hot oven with a honey mustard glaze. Leave to cool for a bit before carving & will keep for 5 days+ in the fridge. Yum!

Gammon is amazing in the slow cooker, put it in with absolutely nothing else on low for about 6-8hrs (Aldi had some lovely joints in last week) we had gammon egg and chips and I used the rest of the meat and the juices in the bottom for my first pan of broth this Autumn, delish! Curry, chilli and bolognese are great too.
Just today I've seen a post on FB for hot chocolate for bonfire night in the slow cooker! They had pots of marshmallows and sprinkles, disposable cups and squirty cream and just stuck a ladle in for folk to help themselves Brew totally stealing that idea...

These are all brilliant. Thank you Flowers

Might go for gammon first.

Rack of ribs + BBQ marinade, cook on low for 7-8 hours. Meat just melts off the bone.

For the brisket recipe do you leave the meat as a joint or cut it up? I'm going to make this at the weekend Smile

A cheap one! Sausage casserole.
Sausages (I sometimes use quorn ones), can of tomatoes, baked beans, onions, peppers, chilli powder and paprika.

Serve with corn and jackets
I chuck lots of other stuff in it if I have it!

Another one here for ribs!

I prefer the dry kind though. Put in a whole rack (the pre cut kind) and add a cup of thick savoury gravy (random but trust me on this one!!) then add a teaspoon of garlic, salt, black pepper, paprika and cumin

Cook on low for 6 hours, remove ribs leaving liquid in slow cooker. Place on a baking tray and add same herbs and spices as before. Blast in a hot oven for 25 minutes!

My favourite treat meal, served with potato wedges and corn on the cob, tastes just like something you would have in an American BBQ restaurant.

Agree with pp re Facebook groups. Slow cooked wonders is a great one I've got lots of good ideas from there

I know it's not a meal unfortunately but I learned how to make delicious fudge in the slow cooker.

My favourite meal is chilli with roughly 50g dark chocolate melted in to give it a nice, rich texture and flavour.

Tomato and bacon risotto done in the slow cooker is nice. You do have to be around to give it a stir once in a while, though.

Shamelessly place marking. My top for.chicken is to always take the skin off first. I adapted a Delia Smith chicken & tarragon recipe for the slow cooker. It tasted OK but was far too greasy as I'd left the skin in.

bullshift · 18/10/2016 09:18

vanilla I've found that skinless, boneless chicken thighs work really well. I made a curry yesterday and didn't even have to dice them: the meat just fell apart. DELISH.
