what can i make with porridge oats, except porridge?

DS refuses to eat cereal or porridge in the morning although when he was younger he used to love them all. DD and i have porridge oats with dried fruit in but he refuses to even try it and because I dislike it so (I onyl eat it because I know it's good for me althgough DS doesn't know that) I really can't blame him.

Is there something else perhaps I can make with porridge oats, like a cereal type bar but that's not full of sugar etc, that DS can have for his breakfast to give him the benefit of the oats?

I hate porridge but I do like raw oats and milk -- ie muesli ... have you tried that?

I probably have at some stage but I cant remember when ZZMum so i might try that again tomorrow. I'll just make my own up huh? the porridge oats with the chopped up dried fruit and some seeds be okay huh?

sounds fine! you can try using apple juice or grated apple mixed in make it sweeter...

if you make it into a sort of cereal bar there might be too much sugar for a breakfast food ( I think!)

what about putting mashed bananas or grated apples and cinnamon with the porridge?

flapjacks, cookies, crumble topping, add yoghurt or fruit juice with dried and fresh fruit and elve overnight.

chuck in some fruit (fresh and dried) siome nuts and some seeds, splash in some milk or some yoghurt...voila...home made muesli

Will chase a lovely recipe for Oats and Dates biscuits if you like...it is really yummy, even though I am not that keen on dates usually, unless stuffed with Marzipan and covered in chocolate, lol!

thank you all for the replies. I'm off to bed now for an early night but I shall read more thoroughly tomorrow and try some of the suggestions.
I shall definitely offer home made muesli tomorrow though for a start.

Here is the recipe for Oat Biscuits:
-125g unsalted Butter
-250g Oats
-250g Dried Dates
-2 Eggs
-100g Sugar
-1tsp Vanilla Essence
-1/2tsp Baking Powder
-grease for the Tray or Bakingpaper

Melt the Butter and stir in the Oats, then let it cool down.
Stone the Datess if necessary and cut into small pieces.
Beat the Eggs, Sugar, Vanilla essence and Bakingpowder , add the Oat/Butter mixture and Mix well.
Use 2 teaspoons to put lil lumps of the mixture onto the Bakingtray that is either well greased or covered with Babking Paper.
Bake in a pre-heated oven (175degree celsius or gasmark 3-4) for 15-20 minutes.

Ready stead cook, used them today - made yummy banana things and as a base for cheesecake!! will look for the recipes.

Ready, I couldn't see why you couldn't use Raisins instead, but have not tried it myself, only ever done it with dates and it is delicious

I make my own cooked muesli with oats, very tasty.

I also make these pretty often. They're dairy-free and very tasty.

Oh, you can normally substitute raisins (or currants, or whatever) for dates.

My recipe (linked to below) calls for raisins, but I've made it with cranberries, raisins, currants, diced candied ginger (yum!), and probably some others I've forgotten.

what's 'canola' oil Cod? or what do you use instead?
And thanks for all your extra posts everyone.
The muesli offered this morning was refused and I'm not going to push it. I'll just bring it out again in a day or so.
I didn't get to make the other biscuits but I have a free afternoon tomorrow and intend to spend it all in the kitchen making those and Cod's and also some mumsnet-recommended soups.
I'm no Delia so please wish me luck!
