Eating nettles

Apparently nettles are really good for you, as good as spinach and obviously free. All you have to do is steam and eat. Has anyone here done it? I'm apprehensive!

Yes, have made cream of nettle soup before and used instead of spinach in a lamb curry dish. I like them.

Just make sure you use the younger leaves, as the older, bigger, ones can be a bit woody.

Nettles are lovely of you collect the top, young leaves.

Collect a large bag full (wear gloves!) and cook them down with olive oil and some sautéed onions. They are delicious. Serve with new potatoes and melted cheese for a Swiss feel Smile

Yes they're bloody lovely but it's getting quite late in the season so don't leave it long if you want to try them this year. They have a quite strong, distinctive flavour. Pick young, non-flowering tips with rubber gloves, ideally not on popular dog walking routes Wink They also make very good tea and wine.

Ooh swiss nettles!

I'm going on a walk tonight with gloves. Let's hope I survive Grin
