Wedding cake

I have been asked to make a wedding cake for a small wedding. Never made a wedding cake before, never made a fruit cake before!

There will only be about 20 guests. So don't need to make huge cake. 1 tier only. I would be grateful for ideas of size of cake, recipes etc. I have about a year to practise

A good place to start is Australian Women's Weekly <a class="break-all" href="//Weekly.www.foodtolove.com.au/search?q=fruit%20cake&tags=&source=&page=0&pageend=0" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">Here. We have used some of these recipes for really luxurious Christmas Cakes in the past.

Does it totally have to be a fruit cake? If you are only doing one tier you can make whatever flavour will be most popular - I did 3 tiers of chocolate for mine Grin

If you aren't confident about icing I'd highly recommend a rose cake. The decoration is really easy to do - I'd never piped before - and everyone was really impressed. There are loads of tutorials on the web + youtube.

They have asked for fruit cake. I don't eat fruit cake so DH and DS will be taste testing various recipes for me.

That rose cake looks amazing. Thank you

Thanks about the rose cake Blush It really is easy to do as even if it's messy, it just looks part of the style.

I was worried about the buttercream holding if it got too warm on the day and made it with half butter and half Trex and then flavoured it with lemon essence so stop it tasting of Trex Grin It was a good job as I got married on the hottest day of the year, so ordinary buttercream would have melted, and everyone thought the lemon icing was lovely I didn't let on why it tasted of lemon Bit of silver spray over the top, all done.
