Best way to make porridge for one

I am the only one in the house who likes porridge (made with milk and ideally with banana and honey). Three kids to get ready for school. Is there a quick easy way to do one portion for myself without having to stir or get a saucepan dirty. What technique for microwave? What brand? Cheers. Another thing my my mother didn't teach me!!

Overnight oats are your friend.

I use an empty Bonne Maman jam jar as it has a wide neck and fill it around a third full of oats, and third full of milk. At this point i usually add some cinnamon and apple purée or jam or other flavoring.
Put the lid on and leave overnight in the fridge then in the morning zap in the microwave to heat through and add some fresh toppings of you wish.

I chuck oats and milk in a large bowl (I think its half a cup of oats, 2 of milk) and microwave for 3 minutes.

Seconding overnight oats. I use American cup measures. 1/3 cup oats 1/2 of milk, handful of sultanas. Bung it in the fridge the night before.

You can eat it cold or a minute in the microwave. Yummy!

Quaker oats. Microwave recipe is on the packet. You might need to experiment with bowls to make sure it doesn't overflow. Put the bowl on scales. Weigh 40g oats and 300g milk straight into bowl. Microwave for 2.5mins, stir, microwave for another couple of mins. Job done. No overnight soaking!

Express porridge sachets from Sainsburys. 2.5 mins and you use the sachet to measure the milk. The golden syrup one is especially lovely.

Trial and error. We use jumbo oats but smaller oats cook faster. Half a cup of oats with a full cup of milk. Microwave, stirring half way through but you can forgo this as you get the timings right.

Timings depend on the strength of your microwave and also the type of milk you use. Making creamy porridge with totally skim milk takes a bit longer I think.

I'd say 4 mins on high and leave to stand for a minute. Use a large pyrex dish so it doesn't boil over in the microwave leaving you with a huge mess to clean up when you are in a rush.

Any oats.

I have a scoop that is about the amount of oats I like. That lives in porridge bag. But a set of cheap 'cup measures' and probably 1/3 cup is right for 1 person.

Then I know that the small glasses are the right amount of milk, so I fill one of those with milk.

I also chuck in a few frozen raspberries normally.

Put into a Lakeland microwave saucepan and nuke for 3 mins and stand for 1 min.

Stir and eat.

Piece of cake!

The Quaker microwave ones. 10 for £1 when on offer. Pour in bowl, fill sachet up with milk and pour on top. I do 90 sec stir then 60 sec then add some milk and stir again. Done Grin

as CMOTDribbler - I put some sugar in mine as well, microwave 2 minutes then leave to stand for a couple of minutes and I add a bit of cold milk to get right 'thickness' and cool it down.
