Christmas Eve:

run round like headless chicken, realise kids have not eaten, throw fish fingers under grill, three hours later realise we have not eaten (other than bits of left-over fishfinger drowned in ketchup), order Chinese take-away, open a bottle of wine and swear we'll only have the one glass each...

Christmas day:

smoked salmon and scrambled eggs never happens, though I do manage to neck down a glass of champagne (hair of the dog) before bunging the turkey in two hours later than planned. Prepare enough vegetables to feed 17, even though there are only 6 of us. Kids realise at 11 that they have not had breakfast so I give them something out of their selection boxes and I start on the mulled wine. Eventually sit down to eat...by which time I am so tipsy I do really well to carry the turkey to the table without dropping it.

Several hours later someone (usually my Dad) will maintain that he is a bit peckish - but doesn't want much..."just a sandwich."

I will take this a cue to load the table with all manner of buffet foods - the smoked salmon we didn't eat for breakfast, cold meats, salad, crusty bread, finger foods, cheese board. No-one will want any of this and will just pick at it in a lacklustre fashion. My Dad will have a turkey sandwich.

Boxing Day: All the party food will come out again. For breakfast, lunch and dinner. We will eat lots of turkey sandwiches.

The Day After Boxing Day: I will get sick of the turkey carcass loitering in my fridge and make curry. And soup. I will (like I do every year) think that maybe next year I will just get a turkey crown...or maybe beef...or a goose (we've never had a goose).

And next year...we will do exactly the same, all over again

Well thats a start . I have this orrible feeling that I will meal plan and it will go wrong as everyone will be eating cold meat sandwiches which are yummy anyway. May as well just buy a mega turkey and be done with it.

And in response to the Christmas breakfast bit, because of the promising oneself to just have the 'one' on Eve, I have never actually done breakfast on the Day either, just had champagne and chocolates from the tin I opened the night before.

Lol @ Nigella "and not really be very interested in anything apart from posh whisks and being posh in general." That pretty much sums her up

Christmas Day lunch: fillet steak and various vegetables for DH and DD; tuna steak for me. Christmas Pudding for dinner.

Christmas Day supper: cris[y duck for DH and DD; lobster for me

Boxing Day: have all parents and siblings here. I will do a chicken casserole, a beef casserole and some form of fish stew type thing. Served with crusty breads.

Wednesday: friends coming round. Going to do Jamie Oliver burgers and wedgies.

Thursday: going to friend's for party

Friday: going to my parent's for party buffet type food

Oh, Christmas Day breakfast: champagne and/or bucks fizz. Scrambled egg and smoked salmon for me; DH and DD want sausage and/or bacon sandwiches.

Caramacs are yummy! Hate smoked salmon - ugh, the texture!!! Blah!

We will probably have -
Christmas Eve - tabbouleh, falafel etc - or give in and order curry!

Christmas day - croissants and jam for brekkie; the usual for lunch (minus the meat for me and DD1). Tea - bubble and sqeak if hungry, or rolls and pickled onions etc if not. Plus huge amounts of Green And Blacks.

Boxing day - off to my mum's, so probably cold turkey (for meat eaters) and chips - I LOVE my mum's chips and I never cook chips myself so it's a huge treat!
