Food for mulled wine party

Hosting a mulled wine party next week, only plan at the moment is to keep a cat of mulled wine simmering on the stove. Mixed group of adults and some children, will prob pop on a movie for the children at some point early evening

Need to do good, was going to do canapés but maybe something more substantial needed? We're in the U.S. So everyone will be stuffed following thanksgiving the previous day

Any thoughts? Should I just do a huge casserole everyone can help themselves to as and when?

Mmmm mulled wine party sounds great!
Perhaps rather than fiddly canapes you could have platters of delicatessen sort of food for people to help themselves.
A cheese board with at least three types of cheese ranging from soft to hard and perhaps a blue cheese or cheese & nut log. Add grapes and walnuts or pecans.
A platter of cold meats such as ham, pastrami, corned beef perhaps some continental goodies such as salami, chorizo, mortadella, serrano ham. Cocktail sausages for the children.
Baskets with crusty bread, crackers, cheese straws, pretzels, ginger nut biscuits, salted crisps
Little dishes with nuts and olives (which could be roasted) or instead of these a couple of dips such as humus, guacamole or baba ganush.

If cold food as above doesn't appeal you could have two vats of hot soup such as pumpkin, mushroom, chicken, tomato, pea and ham, potato and leak, carrot and orange, lentil and sausage..and two or three sandwich choices.
Or two soups and roast chicken.
Maybe you could use left over food from your Thanks giving feast to make soup and sandwiches ;-)

I think I'd normally do a cold spread but because it's a bit chilly and we'll be drinking mulled wine (and there will be a handful of vegans!) I was thinking warm food would be good

I can still do a cheese a cracker board for non vegans though I guess
