quick question - can I put sliced potatoes on top of fish pie instead of mash?

do you think? and how long would that take to cook? and would I have to par boil the pots first??

yes it would be lovely but would take a little longer to cook and would go quite crunchy unless you covered it in foil.

Yes, but would recommend parboiling first, because I put raw ones on once and they were still hard after ages in the oven (v embarrassing, it was a dinner party ) I reckon about 30-40 mins should do it in the oven.

i slice them raw, then steam them for a few minutes, then put them on the pie with dabs of butter - very nice

yeah i some times do it with shepherds pie, i normally do par boil the potatoes first and then brush the top with a little melted butter just to help brown them.

I made a nice fish pie the other day with sliced boild pototoes instead of mash and it was yummy!!
Heres my recipe.
I poach my fish and put it in an oven proof dish.
Add a generous amount of homemade cheese sauce.
Top with sliced boiled potatoes and add a layer of grated cheese.
Pop under the grill to melt and brown.
Mmmmm, yummy. Wish it was tea time again, that's what i'd have.
