OK so lots of relatives are going to be in the area around DS's birthday next week. They will be having a big breakfast elsewhere so we thought we'd do an afternoon tea type thing. But I can't figure out how much of each thing I might need! (Mortal fear of undercatering ).
Numbers at the moment stand at 20 adults and 6 children.
I'm thinking of doing:
Cakes:
DS is demanding a banana cake (it's his birthday I suppose!)
DH is demanding something chocolatey (rocky road maybe?)
Rhubarb, orange and almond
Sticky ginger
Victoria sponge
Flapjacks (my mum is making these)
Scones:
Plain with cream and jam
Cheese with cream cheese and pickle (savoury cream tea innit?)
Pastries:
Mini quiches
Feta and herb parcels
Scotch egg pie (maybe)
Sandwiches:
DS is insisting on smoked salmon and cream cheese! What other fillings? Egg? Cheese? Chicken?
Does that sound like enough? Too much?
I'll make one of each cake so that's OK, but how many scones? How many mini quiches? How many sandwiches? I have form for massively overcatering but leftover cake is no bad thing!
Also, what can I make ahead? Party is on Sunday and I'm baking all this myself!
Thanks!
