Simple French food ideas?

We're off to France on holiday this summer, self catering and I'd like to cook some simple French food while we're there. The catch is that for some of the time we're camping and will only have 2 gas rings to cook on. (For part of the time we'll also be able to barbecue) Obviously as we're on holiday I don't want to spend all day cooking but don't mind some effort Smile

The kids are pretty good eaters although ds1 isn't keen on cream Hmm

I've found a nice recipe for a simple stove top fish stew. Any other ideas?

Oh and we don't like to eat meat every day so veggie suggestions would be great too (do the French do veggie?!)

ratatouille
chicken in a pot
french onion soup
nicoise salad
could you do croque monsieur on the barbeque?
I'm sure there is more :)

How about some lovely local cheese, pate and a baguette? Glass of wine and voila!

Could always have some crudites too to up the veg content.

Just thought of something else which is awesome and perfect for camping - cheese fondue! There's loads of recipes online and Im sure your kids would love it.

You could always do chocolate fondue for dessert too..

Omelette with fresh bread and green beans cooked with lemon and garlic butter.

Roquefort and pear salad (maybe not one for the kids!)

Coq au vin

Boeuf bourginon

Also you can get stuff like cassoulet and fish soup ready made in glass jars in most supermarkets. Again, not sure how adventurous your kids are!
