Aldi frozen fish

Very hard up atm and have been shopping at Aldi for past 2 weeks. Have been experimenting with some things suspect no one will eat each time (e.g. my DC won't eat the crisps, ketchup, don't like any of the cheese and tomato pizzas) and so have had some wastage but have been thrilled at the cost of fruit, veg, not from concentrate juice (we are mostly veggies). My eldest DD and DP are meat eaters and I was wondering if the frozen salmon and cod fillets were ok - especially to use in curries and bakes as they are so much cheaper than fresh.

Ssshhh! Don't tell anyone but aldi frozen salmon is great. It is wild salmon and cooks straight from frozen. Delicious with butter & lemon pepper (from sainsbo's) or pesto. We often have them in the freezer and have them at least once a week. Easy and healthy dinner. Also lovely in curries etc. too.

Yes they are really good - we don't buy fresh now (because often they're anything but...)

I bought some of the frozen salmon. It tasted like no salmon I'd ever had before. be fine fir your cat though.

wait til morrissons or tesco do their salmon half price and buy a whole one and get it foliated. then chop accordingly and freeze?

Thanks for the replies - some differing opinions. What about the frozen cod? Bought the fresh fillets on Friday - was cut in strange shaped fillets but had no complaints - it was dated to the 9 July but when opened yesterday to cook was already smelling a bit fishy. Wonder with supermarkets sometimes how long they leave stuff sitting around at room temperature before shelving.

Aldi frozen salmon is wild salmon so will taste different from farmed. Better for you too.

I buy both, don't eat fish personally but dh and ds both really like it. However, they do shrink a lot on cooking.

No, it was revolting. I've had non farmed salmon before. It didn't taste like that

lidl salmon, they sell both wild and farmed in the frozen, but it is boxed so you cannot see the fish

the non wild one is nicer bits....nice even cutlets as opposed to the wild stuff which is always skinny flat taily bits

the fresh salmon...i can't recall what that is, but you can see it through the cellophane and it's very tasty!

Recommend the basa fillets from aldi - frozen. About £1.50 for 4 iirc. Lovely white fish, we cover in chopped chilli, garlic, ginger and coriander and girl for 8-10 mins. Delish!

Yes the Aldi frozen cod is good, also agree with the morrisons fresh cod idea sometimes they have it on for half price £7 a kilo and is great to stock the freezer up with (is usually advertised on telly when the offer is on)

The Aldi frozen tuna steaks are good too, if I'm feeling particularly lazy I marinate one for a bit in soy sauce, olive oil, honey, lemon juice, sweet chilli and brown sugar then pan-fry for 4 minutes and serve with the Aldi frozen rice.
