I got it out again last night, and even though it is fallig apart I have decided to keep it. Some really good ideas in there, any one else have this book?
If so, what are your favourite recipes?

It is a good book - leek and courgette soup, pancake stacky thing, green beans with herb butter - off the top of my head!!

Thanks for the response Morgan. I used to use it a lot as a student, as vegetarian is cheaper, and I had been a veggie as a teenager.
I think there are some great salad ideas. Made Cauliflower, date and banana salad yesterday, and it was gorgeous

I love Cranks, I have about 4 of their cook books although I suspect they're not as old as yours!

ProfYaffle, which ones do you have if you don't mind. I might just get a new one.

I have got the 'Cranks Recipe Book' from Cranks restaurant (is that the one you have Overrun?) but I am ashamed to say I have never cooked anything from it. It's a paperback and the pictures aren't very inspiring but I will try some recipes if some of you can suggest some good ones. I have a veggie DH so I am always looking for inspiration. Please tell me what will be a winner.

In return, I can recommend Food from the Place Below by Bill Sewell. The Place Below is a lovely restaurant and I used to go a lot when I worked in London.

I've got the Cranks Bible, Cranks Light and Cranks Fast Food (thought there was one more but just checked and only have 3) They're older than I thought, between 1998 and 2001.

I've used Cranks Light and the Bible the most, hardly opened Fast Food.

hth!

Lucious lemon cake is very yummy too!
Your book sounds in same condition as mine Overrun

Mine is quite a small paperback just called "The Cranks Recipe Book" published in 1985. I think my Nanna gave it to me around the time I became a vegetarian in my teens (not now btw)
Recipes that I can remember making, and intend to do again are as follows:
Cheese and lentil wedges
Potato soup (has paprika and carroway seeds in)
Made Mushroom and potato pie once, but didn't turn out well
Mushroom stragonoff is lovely.
Oh and the date slices are good too.
Let me know how you go

Just seen your comment. Now it’s 2020 but couldn’t resist replying. My book is falling apart but I’ve got a favourite to tell you about it’s the melting moments page 198. They are delicious. I’m making the luscious lemon cake page 178 now. It’s the first time so will see how that comes out. I used to use this book for vegetarian recipes for my daughter. But that was too long ago to remember the recipes I used.

Zombie thread indeed, but I have an ancient Cranks cookery book too, and also the cookbook from The Place Below, which I agree was great. Sadly gone now.

@mooboy, thanks for that tip. I've just looked at that recipe and I have everything in stock I need to make it, so may just do that now. Looks delicious!

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g that's good to hear! Have you any favourites from that book? It's a while since I've cooked from it!

It's a while for me too, @mooboy, but I used to make the aubergine and lentil dish, usually with mushrooms added. Very tasty. He suggests serving it with peperonata and celeriac mash. I think I did make the peperonata for colour but served it with a green vegetable and probably rice, possibly brown rice. Nowadays I'd be keen to keep the calories down and serve it with just the green veg or a mixed salad.
