Transfats - what should we be avoiding?

I have just been reading about how the US are banning transfats. What exactly is it that we should be avoiding?

I use butter for cooking and spreading but I'm sure there are lots of other things containing transfats.

Following. Butter doesn't contain trans fats though does it?

Oh, I Googled, it does contain low levels.

I meant I use butter so should be ok there but what else are they in. I'm surprised it does contain transfats. I thought it was the "good stuff".

All very confusing!

Trans fats occur in most natural food including human breast milk.

I'm pretty sure once you heat an oil it becomes a transfat.
