walnuts & dried apricots actively lower cholesterol. Avoid biscuits & pastries (things with hidden fats). Eat lots of fish. Cut out hard cheese, butter, (meat I imagine - we are veggie so not sure about meaty issues!)Soya milk is good, certainly cut down to semi or totally skimmed milk. DP was told he had high chol a few years ago & we have mangaed to lower it. DP is on the phone at the mo will ask him if there's anything to add in a bit!

yes the birtish heart foundation are really good
cholesterol is REALLY complicated and you need a phd in diet to understand it
so ring them first

i cant find the book i got on amazon
will keep looking - try your library though.
ok good htings to reduce it are pulses deffo
the other changes we ahev made is dreaded benecol, NO cheese or butter at all.
all frying in olive oil if atall - hardly any fatty meat - bacon , lamb etc
LOADS of fish - we have tripled our fish coneumption. he finds luncht he hardest - have made lots of soups and he has hoummus or tuna asald

TheDaVinciCod Mon 23-Oct-06 20:27:55

BHF VERY good on all of it
lamb bad beef too really
chicken and pork ok but super trimmed

TheDaVinciCod Mon 23-Oct-06 20:28:20

bread fine
tis the animal or dairy fats to watch for

benecol is shit

TheDaVinciCod Mon 23-Oct-06 20:29:47

thast really interesting yo yo - partic abouth the eggs
also i THINK the bhf said that prawns in an otherwise LOw chol diet are fine once in a while.

theere are a lot of myths abotu it and trying to lowere cholesterol and NOT lose wieght ( as in your dhs case) wil be tricky
dh has lost two mcuh needed stone

TheDaVinciCod Mon 23-Oct-06 20:30:38

( sorry will stop)
also dh not prescirbed statisn as per article as gp wanted him to chage lifestyle first
he was a "fag and a pint" pccasional smoker too so that has stopeped
