Recommendations for a food processor please....

Hi all,

I have been looking to buy a food processor for quite some time and would really appreciate some recommendations...

Here's what I need it for...

1. Make Indian cooking easier - i.e. lets met finely chop 2kg onions! :)
   
2. Comes with a small jar attachment for making pesto
   
3. I would like to make my own hummus
   
4. Make smoothies - is there a food processor as powerful as the nutri bullet? I don't have the nutri bullet, but I like the fact that it can cut through nuts... I really don't want to buy the nutri bullet separately!
   
5. I bake, but not very often... so I am not very bothered if it doesn't have the relevant attachments

Sorry I can't help but I'm watching with interest as I'm after a food processor too. We do bake quite a lot and would like something which will chop vegetables and grate cheese too. Any we buy will be used often so we need one that's robust.

The fallback answer used to be Kenwood, didn't it? Are they still any good?

I bought a Duronic and its ok so far £50 on Amazon or around that, I like mine it does everything you've mentioned. It has a 1200W motor so is pretty powerful and a years guarantee which is ok.

So far I've made green smoothies with kale, whole apples, hemp powder etc and the consistency was very smooth, I've also made nut cream for curries but I always soak my nuts first and it was brilliant no bits. I'm not sure about onions you might have to pulse them quickly as it could reduce them to mush.

The Duronic has a big jug so you may have to make larger portions of pesto and store what you don't use.

I too would love a vitamix professional, currently saving. My entry level machine will be good for now.

I also saw in Sainsbury on sale for I think £53 another blender it was in their professional range and looked as thought it had a nut butter/milk setting. Although it was out of stock it might be worth a look if you have a Sainsbury close to you. It wasn't online and I think it too had a 1200W motor.

Kenwood I had one it broke or the attatchments did my motor base unit is still going strong. I think buy a top model kenwood and you'll be fine mine was mid range.

There are also lots of Heston Blumenthal kitchen machines on the market and magi mix both looked good but they were £120 and had the same motor size as the Duronic which was half the price and as I want to up my blender ability I opted cheaper. Mainly so I could start saving but if you want to spend more but not as much as vitamix they might be worth a look.

Nutri bullet has a smaller motor so I thought it wouldn't process well? I also avoided kitchen ninja as they don't seem to have a guarantee on the motor? Though I may be wrong on both points.

I love my mini KitchenAid Food Chopper. Was about £60. Chops things nicely, evenly and very small (if you want them small!). It makes purees and smoothies. You might need a bigger/different KitchenAid product - but they are very well made and reliable.

I brought a kitchen ninja that has the nutri bullet with it. I love it- not used to full capacity but made smoothies, dough, ice cream in so far. Very powerful & £30 off in costco at mo

Nutri bullet has two separate blade things; one for pulping
stuff into smoothies and one for grinding coffee beans, spices etc

Gatekeeper the only reason I am not going for the nutribullet is that I don't want 2 separate appliances.... But I did like the concept of the nutribullet when I saw It on tv

When my gran passed away I got her Magimix which was bought in 1984 and still going strong.

I think mine is the Magimix 5200 model. Had a different brand before this one and the motor burned out eventually. Also needed various spare parts.

The motor has just gone in my magimix - Just after the 10 year guarantee has expired. I'm looking for a different machine this time, I was never happy with the grating function on the Magimix, always too uneven and too many bits left behind.

I've got the Magimix 4200XL. Its sturdy and works really well but the three bowl business drives me mad. If you want to chop something in the small bowl, you can guarantee something will fly out into the next bowl and you end up washing them both. Plus you have to take 2 bowls out every time you want to use the big bowl (which is most of the time for me).

It does what it does really well, but I wouldnt choose it again.

I just want something that grates nicely and chops finely, agree the multi bowl thing is nonscense, I have a coffee grinder for spices and a mixer for whisking.

I'm afraid i found magi mix to be anything but the king of food processors.

Bowl chipped after being in dishwasher. Motor failed (as did my MILs) just outside guarantee.
