What's your best toddler meal?

MonstersIncq · 08/12/2014 20:44

Im talking really well received by toddler and also nutritionally good. Feeling in a massive rut and like I fees my family the same thing on rotation. Would be really interested to hear whatever peoples children enjoy.

No smug 'I can't understand this separate meals for children thing. Mine have always just had whatever we had' please. Sometimes my children eat dinner at six and I wait to have supper with DH and sometimes that is something that DCs won't like.

"Green" pasta. Frozen spinach and grated courgette, mix with a little cream cheese and a lot of pesto. Add some frozen peas. Ham or chicken if you fancy. Stir into pasta

Pesto means you can serve what you like Wink

And DD demolished veggie 'sausage' rolls this weekend:

Some cooked rice, a weetabix (yes, really), grated carrot and courgette, then any other veg you like. This weekend I added some frozen peas and tinned sweet corn, some leftover sweet potato mash, leftover baked beans, finely chopped end of a leek, handful of grated cheese.

Mix in an egg and some tinned tomatoes to bind. Roll up in ready-made puff pastry and bake at 180 for 30 mins.

All the veg! None of the drama!

And they freeze well.

So all home made...

Pasta with anchovies, cheese, broccoli, garlic and olive oil.

Chicken fingers with potatoes wedges and some salad

Salmon fillets with stir fry veg and noodles
Lemon lime chicken with peas, rice and coriander.

Chicken korma

Fajitas

DS,6 and DD, 3 eat all of the above lots!

Pasta with peas and flaked salmon, mix in a dollop of Philly cheese.

Make a batch of mini Jamie Oliver meatballs, freeze in batches. Defrost, shallow fry, serve with mash, veg & gravy.

Mild chilli con carne and rice (again, batch cook the chilli)

I hear you! My dc are 6 and 3 and eat around 5-6 (depending on when we get in from work and school). My fail safe meal is pasta, meatballs and red sauce. Red sauce is chopped up veg - whatever is kicking about the fridge - an onion and a sweet potato. Chop, fry in olive oiil, add tinned toms or passata and cook until everything is soft. Blend it smooth.

I also use red sauce as pizza topping and use as the base for bolognaisse sauce with mince and chopped carrot and courgette.

I made the Annabel Karmel salmon fishcakes today which I thought would be immediately rejected but they were a resounding success with the DC's -2 & 6yrs and Fussy DH.
Will add them to my (limited) repertoire Grin

'Pirate' wraps.

Wraps, grated cheese, crudites, ham in small pieces, broccoli, peas.... basically anything. They make a 'treasure map' using cheese for a beach, lines of eg cucumber for a path, some carrot sticks for x marks the spot, broccoli for trees etc etc.

Then they roll it all up and eat it. Grin Natural yogurt helps to make it less dry.

I know exactly how you feel. One of mine is an eats what's given type- but the otherShockConfused not so much.

A regular staple is tomato soup with bread and grated cheese. I make it myself, with onion and grated carrot, so to me it's nutritious enough.

Scrambled eggs, cheese and cherry tomatoes also passes as an acceptable meal in casa de pause.

Pasta soup always goes down well ( minestrone- but without kale/ cabbage)

Sausage and bean casserole- sausages, butter beans, a chopped carrot and tin of tomatoes.

Roast rainbow 'chips' - roasted chips of potato, sweet potato, carrot and parsnip. With ketchup. The eldest will have chicken goujons alongside .
