Ds really wants this as his Christmas pudding, I'd like to serve it with something else but what...shortbread might work for texture. Any other ideas? Would adding ginger in a biscuit be too much?

SameThing Mon 08-Dec-14 12:11:49

Yes, I was going to say some kind of plain biscuit. Shortbread maybe on the rich side? Sounds amazing smile

Was coming on to say Idris Elba, but then saw it was for your DS, so maybe a bit inappropriate.

What about a warm peanut butter cookie?

Dancingyogi Mon 08-Dec-14 12:15:57

A plain chewy style cookie might work - maybe an ice cream sandwich, but the danger is introducing one flavour too many.

Can't seem to do a link on my phone but what about vanilla crescents (Vanillekipferl)? I see Jamie has a recipe...

Pmsl at Idris Elba - that's a very distracting thought! grin

Peanut butter is the work of the devil in this house, it has no fans but me!

Just one(or two) of those fancy chocolate lined wafer tubes for me please.

Dancingyogi Mon 08-Dec-14 12:20:23

Lightly spiced gingerbread be too much?

Was thinking of those wafer tubes too. I love ginger, but I think it might detract.

Though the brandy snaps are very tempting. Think he might feel pretty sick afterwards though.

Dancingyogi Mon 08-Dec-14 12:45:33

Have never made brandy snaps - I bet a caramelised sugar basket would work the ice cream isn't very sweet but I'm not sure my skills extend that far.

Brandy snap baskets are impossible to eat in polite company grin

Where can I get this ice cream from? It sounds amazing.

ArchangelGallic Mon 08-Dec-14 12:52:22

I was going to suggest a large spoon!
Where is the ice cream from? Sounds divine.

I think a brandy snap or lightly spiced gingerbread type biscuit might work.

FollowTheStarship Mon 08-Dec-14 12:53:46

Maybe the brandy snap baskets be perfect for those moments with Idris then smile

Something like a langue du chat biscuit?

AlmaMartyr Mon 08-Dec-14 17:51:43

A brandy snap or brandy snap basket does sound lovely. Where is this incredible sounding icecream from? I want some!

Dancingyogi Tue 09-Dec-14 07:41:44

Thanks for your suggestions, I think some sugar work - basket style is probably what we'll go for, just because I fancy experimenting and DS will love the whole effect, but still thinking about making brandy baskets too....we don't have guests eating with us, so no need for politeness or a perfectly turned out result.
The ice cream is from Nigel Slater.

How about a bread ad butter pudding with marmalade on the top

GooodMythicalMorning Tue 09-Dec-14 07:50:22

Jamaican ginger cake

Wow, that recipe looks amazing, thanks OP! Have pinned it.
I'd echo the crunchy biscuit type recco, either a plain or a choc shortbread would be what I went with, I think.
