Ds is going to scouts tomorrow and they are having a cooking night. He has to come up with a menu to feed 6 giant lanky scouts. The food must cost less than £5 and be bought at the local co-op. They have a small gas stove to cook on. The food is supposed to be healthy and filling (some sort of fruit or vegetable content) and quick to prepare.

I thought of eggy bread with peanut butter and bananas.

Does anyone have any better ideas please?

I know this is going to sound judgy but isn't the whole point of Scouts that it gets them to think about this sort of thing for themselves? What does he plan to cook?

He wants to make bacon sandwiches. With tomato sauce. Which they had a couple of weeks ago.

Or pot noodles. He loves pot noodles.

He was sent home to "research" some ideas. Which I read as "Ask somebody".

Stir fry?
Eggy bread, bananas and peanut butter sounds a bit of a marmite thing.
Spag Bol made with a jar of sauce can easily be made on 2 rings. Curry (with lots of veg) from a jar.

Pancakes? Sausage sandwiches? But that would probably cost too much.

Got it! Carbonara.

Omelettes with mushroom, peppers.
Sausage and Smash.
Spanish omelette (with the infamous tinned new potatoes)
Fajitas (chickpeas rather than chicken to save £££)
Pizza wraps (passata on tortilla, add cheese and toppings, roll up, heat until cheese has melted)
Pasta pesto with mushrooms and cherry tomatoes
Those are a few from our camping repertoire!

How about Bacon and Beans? Can all be cooked in one pan - bacon first, beans in on top - serve with some bread rolls. Beans count as vegetables, yes?

I like the Spanish omelette plan HooHa and the carbonara idea mymum. I knew someone would have more imagination than me.

Some sort of savoury rice - long grain rice, onions, frankfurters cut into small lengths, tinned tomatoes. You could also do it with tinned tuna, and with that you could put grated cheese on top at the end.
