Christmas Day starter ideas

Any good ideas for a Christmas Day starter? I have my parents coming for Christmas and they usually have prawn cocktail, but my DH will only eat king prawns and prawn cocktail only really works with the little prawns I think. Can't do smoked salmon as my mum doesn't like it.
I want something fairly light, for obvious reasons!

If you like prawn cocktail but DH only eats king prawns how about changing it up and having avocado fanned with a few king prawns piled up next to it.

Our fall back is pate on toast! Home made tuna, smoked mackerel or smoked salmon are easy and nice on some crispy melba toast.

We did melon and Parma ham for a starter for friends recently as it is light and refreshing.

I was going to ask the same question OP! My folks are now coming over so need a nice starter idea. We don't eat avocado, and prawn cocktail's a bit predictable. Would love some more suggestions. :-)

Last year I did; fresh bread with pate, chutney and leaves smile

Not a clue what I'm doing this year yet
