Cooking with no kitchen?

Hi all, I'm in need of some inspiration.

For reasons of great complexity, next week my DP and I are moving into a almost-finished house to house-sit for two weeks while our half-finished flat becomes habitable.

The almost-finished house will have a fridge and a sink, but no other kitchen bits.

We will have a camping stove, a slow cooker if I can find it/be bothered to dig it out, and possibly a microwave.

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and working flat out on my PhD, while DP will be frantically working on our half-finished flat. Time is not our friend right now

Has anyone got any suggestions for quick, healthy and hearty meals we can create with these limited resources, to avoid living off ready meals and takeaways for three weeks? (which, TBH, feels quite tempting at this moment!!)

Thanks in advance!

Can you get a kettle? The 3 minute noodles will be your good friends.

And do find the slow cooker.

The camping stove for one pot meals, curries, pastas, chilli - bung the rice or pasta in and give it 20-30 mins to cook and absorb the liquid before serving.

Plenty of bread, sandwiches etc.

I cooked for two years on a one ring hot plate and a microwave; I learnt one pot meals pretty well and still use those 3 min noodles each week.

Have you got a microwave rice/pasta steamer?

I have one a bit like this www.lakeland.co.uk/15217/Red-Microwave-Multi-Steamer

If you will have access to a freezer, can you make curries and sauces and stuff in advance, then reheat in teh microwave, most things would keep their heat for the ten minutes it'd take to do rice or pasta (or five minutes with little pasta)

We spent several weeks earlier this year 'between kitchens'. Favourites were things like chicken curry or Chilli Con Carne made with a jar and served with some microwaved rice. Lots of chunky soups and stews served with bread. Stir fries worked OK and we added lots of soft noodles. Another good one was sausages and beans all cooked in the same pan.

you'll find lots of ideas on the camping thread. with the addition of a cheap bbq you would have plenty of cooking options

Cooked chicken from super market, ready cooked roasties, frozen/tinned veg.

Left over chicken in baguettes with stuffing, apple sauce & gravey.

I would use it as an excuse to buy a thermomix...(maybe). £800ish so might be hard to justify for a couple of weeks but everyone who has one seems to rave about it, and it cooks and chops.

If you don't have a steamer buy one. You can cook meat wrapped in foil along with veg.

There are loads of free kindle books with slow cooker recipes.

What about buying an omlette maker?

Do get the mircowave.
Packet rice, Tis lovely and does not feel too unhealthy. There are loads of flavours too, to keep you going a few weeks...

You can do nice scrambled eggs in a microwave, in a bowl. Good for you, and super quick.
And you can do most veg in the microwave too. You'll be fine!

Have you got a toaster? I'd probably miss the texture if just a slow cooker and a microwave.
