What are your favourite reheatable meals?

For a long time we've always eaten together in the evenings but recently that's proving more difficult as dh gets back later from work now.

I don't want to cook twice really, so I'm looking for ideas for meals that are easy to reheat for dh and I once the dcs are sorted. We also don't have a microwave at the moment so they need to be reheated in a pan. Even better if they don't involve cooking pasta or rice twice too I want the moon on a stick, don't I?

I do have a couple of meals in mind (spag bol, a chorizo and chickpea stew I make, a big hearty veggie soup thing too) but we get bored quite quickly so more ideas would be brilliant. I've realised that a lot of our usual repertoire doesn't reheat well at all!

Well guess you can have chilli on stove and then just add to flour tortillas or tacos, bit of cheese- then under the grill? A jacket potato could be left in foil in oven?

Having mental block whats the name of that stuff, little grains you just add hot water to and just need to stir through.. used in a lot of middle eastern dishes?

Must be some slow cooker type recipes, which have enough in them to not appear as glorified soup - stew and dumplings ?

If you do oven food like moussaka, fish pie etc. you can make all the portions up at once and then just stick the dishes in the oven at different times

I think breaking means couscous ! -very useful. I do soups and stews so some can be dished up , and the rest left in the pan. I make quiches, sausage and tomato pie- either can be eaten hot/warm/cold with new potatoes and maybe some salad, though easy enough to do some frozen veg when needed.

Thanks everyone. Couscous sounds like a plan, am going to try out some tagine style recipes I think. Or a big soup/curry with bread would be good. Jacket potato wrapped in foil too - why didn't I think of that?

Ds1 won't eat fish pie sadly (and I must confess I find it a bit of a faff) but dh and I love it. Maybe the dcs could have beans on toast that night Grin and the night we have quiche too...

Have you thought of getting a slow cooker? About £13.50 from Tesco.

Lots of MN recipes here

I keep thinking about it JamNan and I know lots of people rave about them but then I read posts from people saying everything tastes weird in them and it puts me off. We also don't eat much meat - I always think of them as being best suited to making meaty casserole type dishes but maybe they are more versatile than I think?

I also can't quite my head around not browning stuff or putting it all in together. How does that work?

And I have a tiny kitchen so not sure where it would live! I am open minded though Grin

I would also say slow cookers are great for this, as they can just stay on warm function until everyone's had their portion.
