I'm planning on cooking it this week for the first time (no idea why I've not done it before!).

Here's how I do mine. Make batter - 180g flour, 2 eggs, 350 ml milk. Beat until frothy.

Put a splash of oil in a deep roasting tin and cook 8 sausages on 200 c for 10 mins. Take them out and crank up oven to 230. Once hot (10 mins) put sausages back in oven for 5 mins, then take out and pour batter round them quickly. Put back in oven for 25 mins.

They key is that the sausages and pan need to be really really hot when you pour the batter in.
