Got friends coming over for a meal on Saturday night. One avoids gluten, which isn't a problem as FIL is coeliac so I'm used to catering for him. Got main sorted and various options for dessert, but struggling for inspiration for a starter. Thought I'd turn to mumsnet for help.

First thing that springs to mind would be grilled tiger prawns. Or possibly a selection of antipasti (with gluten free bread if necessary, but bread could be left out altogether). Or crudités with various dips?

Parma ham and melon

Steamed green beans laid on each plate, topped with a hard boiled egg, criss crossed wirh anchovy fillets and drizzled with balsamic glaze. Piss easy and really fancy looking Smile

Obviously halve the hard boiled egg first, don't just put it on whole, hehehe #totalfail

Soup, but if you use stock cubes use knorr as they're GF.
Prawn or smoked salmon salad
salad
Smoked mackerel paté with GF toasted mini toasts (gf bread cut into small rounds and toasted under the grill)
Squid fried with chilli and garlic on sakad
Prawns/squid in ginger, soy sauce and/or/garlic on rice noodles
Roast peppers with goats cheese
Garlic mushrooms on GF ciabatta
Roast butternut squash with chilli, garlic and goats cheese
The list is endless... I could literally go on and on.
GF pasta with a very basic tomato sauce
PS: I'm not GF or coeliac Smile

dried apricots, soak them over night so they plump up and have a slit in the side. Stuff with brie (not sure of gluten content) or garlic / garlic butter or almonds.

Wrap in streaky bacon, secure with a cocktail stick and bake for 10 - 15 mins.

Baked or poached salmon? If there'll be a few of you I'd buy a side of salmon and cook it with lemon and herbs (dill?) and serve it whole for people to help themselves?

It's much cheaper to buy salmon this way too. Even if there are leftovers you can use in pasta or sandwiches.
