Slow cooker question re beef bourginon

Apologies in advance for spelling! Am going to use a Coleman's beef bourginon packet mix in a slow cooker. It's not a slow cooker sachet but I'm figuring it should be ok. Question is, should I cook it on low for 3.5 hours, or high for 3.5 hours or low for 12 hours?

Anyone?

Usually I cook on low for 6 hours or high for 4..dont know if that helps?

I normally give it 8 at low but that's just because it's more convenient.
Don't forget you won't need to add all the water, around half should be ok.

How much beef? In Kg.

Holymoly321 Thu 13-Feb-14 22:19:31

400g of beef. Packet mix says 425ml of water (or half water half red wine). Am adding mushrooms onion and pancetta.

So should I add less liquid? I thought it might dry out if left for 8 hours on low?

At 400g of beef I would give it five hours if cut in chunks. Also for future reference try and find dried onions, cooking wine and dried mushrooms. It gives a slow cooked casserole a really rich, thick sauce.

Hi there, the prob is I have to either put it on before I go to work or wait till I get back after school run at 3.30. Well be eating around 8pm

I would put it on before work. You can always turn off if done after school run and reheat later.

I would just put it on low before work.. It's doubtful that it'll dry out.
