Following on from the Indian Sweets thread...

I have been trying to find out the name of this stuff for years, but no-one seems to remember it. When I was little we lived for a few years (we moved constantly, I went to 7 different primary schools) in an area which was about 70% Pakistani families, and obviously most of my friends were Asian. I remember eating lots of different exciting foods at their houses, birthday parties etc, and I am addicted to spicy and strongly flavoured food now - am an obsessive cook There was a sweet that was really popular, it was always on offer and was delicious, everyone made it, but I've never come across it since and certainly not in Indian restaurants or cookbook.

It was made of rice, was bright orange, sticky and very fragrant. I haven't eaten it since I was eight and I can still taste it. Does anyone know what I am on about, and better still, does anyone know how it's made?

No....I don't think that's it This stuff was really dense and sticky and bright orange. I don't think it was made with basmati, it was really puddingy and almost translucent, and very oily. I want some!!

Julabi? Not sure if spelt right. Don't know what it's made of but it's really really sticky & bright orange - kind of hard though & twisted into stringy shapes. Is this making any sense?

Not jalebi, although have had that too and is divine... it's the same colour! It could be the other one, although it wasn't made into little balls, it was always just in a bowl as it was. It was the same colour as jalebi and tasted similar....mmmmmmm.
