No sour cream... can I substitute double cream instead?

Want to make a chocolate cake that calls for sour cream, which I don't have. I do have some left over double cream though - can I use it?

can't see why not!

Me neither. What is so special about sour cream?

Sour cream is just 'acidulated' cream which means that a teaspoon of lemon juice into the double cream will result in sour cream. hth.

Excellent.

Now, do I have lemon juice...?

Or you can substitute sour cream with a half-and-half mixture of double cream and plain yogurt.

No yoghurt

Or, I could make a chocolate cake for which I do have all the correct ingredients

Yes, and then eat it hot with double cream spooned over. Mmmmymmm.
