Flew in last week to spend a month in the Uk. We have had a few snack lunches out and/ or its the places we have chosen simple cafes bars even the airport and on the plane but its all been fancy poshed up sarnis, wraps and panini... For the record its 1 panino and plural panini..which means sandwich. Its all Fancy pickles, sweet chilli, smoked chicken, rocket and sundried tomatoes what has happened to cheese and pickle, ham and cheese ? the simple things in life. Please tell me the BLT in M&S still exists or my trip into town will be ruined.
Don't get me wrong some were very nice but I do like cheddar and branston once in a while!!!!

Having a very fussy DD2 and a rocket hating DH, I can assure you it's very very difficult

I never buy sandwiches - the main fillings are flavourless, no worries about eating rocket, it won't taste like rocket, the cheese won't taste of anything either and the addition of a sweet relish that tastes if nothing but sugar doesn't help and the bread is horrid too. Best avoided!

For £1 is boots you can get just ham on its own
and just cheese on it's own

Yep you need Sainsbos/Tesco's/M and S/ Boots for the egg and cress and cheese and pickle combos.

Yes, our market has a sandwich/chip/snack place. Very nice and cheap.

A while back M&S were selling jam sandwiches and chocolate spread sandwiches.

I always take my own, a shop bought sandwich is the most unappetising meal I've come across, worse than aeroplane food. the lettuce or rocket is slimy, bread stale and the spread or mayo melting into the bread. It's always so pressed together it's obvious it's been made by a machine which to me is unappetising enough.

Well todays cafe .... Farmhouse cheddar with poshed up pickle, posh lettuce , cornish smoked ham and sweet relish, all the toasted psoh panini you could ask for and a load of other poshed up sarnis. The dds had a simple sarni in like a mixed kids box - cheese or ham but the slices of the granary bread were bogger than my fist!!!!
Tomorrow we are going on a picnic so I am making the lot ham and cheese for all I think.. Maybe a pork pie and not a bloody sesame seed in sight...
