Fed up to the back teeth of it.

I am tried and tried and tried to get them to eat properly and am going to give up.

I am consistant and give them a variety, take the plate away without commment (usually!), no alternatives, only fruit blah blah bastard blah.

And I am sick of it.

They don't get crap but the only thing dd1 will eat without whining is cheese sandwiches.

And I am sick of throwing veggies away all the time.

"oooh but it takes up to 20 times for a child to try a food?" Oh does it Annabel? YEAH RIGHT! I have been trying b@st@rd broccoli for a year.

Nuggets and chips here I come.

PAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't give up now oo. You're probably just at the point of breakthrough. Clearly the children aren't starving, so continue on. One day (and I can't guarantee it will be this week) they will suprise you by eating everything with hardly a murmur.

Don't give up now honey. You can do it! Grin

Oh and if you do do nugget and chips.... make home made! Wink

everything is homemade

but that is why I am so peed off, I spend time making this food for it to be wasted

we eat together 4 days a week but on the 3 I work, I still sit down at the table with them with my cup of tea.

So, I do everything 'right'.

dd1 is 3, will be 4 in October
dd2 is 21 months - she will tolerate bolognese so I hide 301 veggies in it

SO, WHEN WILL IT IMPROVE???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let them "help" you cook. Once dd got to help mash potato, she began eating it. Before that she wouldn't eat potato in any form.

She tips frozen peas into the steamer and since she cooked them herself, she eats them saying as she does so "mummy aren't the peas delicious, I am a very good cook, aren't I mummy?"

Seems to be enough if they brush milk over the pastry or stir a sauce for a couple of minutes. Give them each an apron and get them "cooking".

no matter what I do or don't do for ds makes any difference.

He will eat dog poo if he's hungry and turn up his nose at even ice cream if he's not.

I have to keep a decent enough space after his afternoon snack for him to be hungry enough to eat whatever he gets. Tho I get the timing wrong 50% of the time and he's either over hungry or I give in to his whining for a snack cos dinner isn't ready quick enough!

Do you give them snacks OO? I would cut out all snacks if they wo't eat their tea

Oh this post made me laugh - sorry as I SO appreciate your frustration! Only thing I have found to get my DS to eat is to make sure he is really hungry! If he even has a small snack within an hour of a meal he won't be interested. He is a year older that your DD1 and he has improved as of late. All the other tricks don't work and I believe me I have tried them all!

yes they have snacks

usually rice cakes/breadsticks/raisins/fruit

god I sound like a right smug mare! They do have choc but mainly at weekends.

I think the when MIL has them when I work they probably get fed all sorts mid afternoon which may explain the lack of eating then

I still think you should ban all snacks even if they are healthy.

The bad news is that ds is 8.5years and has only just deigned to eat pasta. That's eight years of pasta in home made feckin sauce being thrown away. And that's just one example. They don't get snacks inbetween. I cook from scratch. They get plenty fresh air/excersise. They help me cook. I grow my own veg which they help grow and pick. And they still are picky little bleeders.

Sorry, I'm sure yours can't be as pigheaded as mine....

actually, I hate broccoli and an American friend made me a curried veg pie (you had to be there). It was gorgeous and it contained broccoli. I never eat broccoli!

my ds needs snacks - every 2 hours or so - otherwise he gets really whiny and teary. Half a banana later and he's back to normal.

DD is being a pest at the moment. She had some pasta at 12 yesterday with no pudding (was at friends and nothing was offered). Then when DS got home from school I chopped un an apple to share. DS and I ate all that - although DD was given ample opportunity to have some. Because I was worried about her getting over hungry I also gave them a cracker and philly each which she ate (small cracker and smear of cheese). Then at 6 we had jacket pots, chicken casserole and brocolli. She picked the carrots out of the casserole and ate them and that was it. I chopped up a pear and she didn't touch that either. So then she went to bed with nothing. She was mighty grumpy this morning which we put down to being extremely hungry. But apart from whinging a couple of times slept until after 7. So I am going to continue being tough.

I suppose I am lucky because DS ate the plateful, half the apple, half the pear, a piece of birthday cake and had had a pear and an orange for school fruit. So I feel like I am not entirely wasting my efforts. Especially when he claims his school dinner was cucumber, smily face and a triangle of white bread followed by a biscuit. Shock

you have my sympathies OO. DD would eat anything you put in front of her up until the age of 2-2.5
Now at 4, her diet consists of sausage, ham, cheese, toast and marmite, pasta carrots and broccoli. (not all at the same time).
How I long for her to eat bolognese or casserole so that I don't have to cook two meals.
She won't even eat roast chicken with yorkshire puds anymore, which she used to adore.

Do you think they become bored with the same old food?

dd1

half a pitta (to go with the uneaten meatballs)

dd2

2 mouthfuls of tuna pasta (she has a small mouth)
raisins
choc buttons
mouthful of pitta
milk
