I am really craving a cookie, I'm 25 weeks pregnant and I need one.

I only have the stuff in my cupboard, I don't have brown sugar.

Please help!

What is wrong with granulated sugar? Are you diabetic?

You might be be able to make cookies without sugar but they won't taste very nice.

No, I just don't have any, I only have the stuff in the cupboard!

I have:

Caster sugar
Icing Sugar
Vanilla Essence
Self raising flour
I might have plain flour
White chocolate
Smarties

And probably a load of other stuff, just no granulated sugar.

You can make shortbread with caster sugar, and other kinds of biscuits too. Google a few recipes.

Caster sugar is perfect...it and granulated can pretty much be interchanged...it's just slightly finer!

You'll be fine with caster sugar. I never buy granulated for baking - just caster.

If you are making American style cookies, the correct white sugar to use is caster.

Marjorie Nooo! Shortbread is just not the same. It has to be cookieish and chocolatey. :o

Could anyone point me towards a good recipe using caster sugar? I've never actually make cookies before, only cakes.

This is my recipe of choice... And you can keep the dough in a cling film sausage and slice off and bake as required!

Kato Those look perfect but you need brown sugar and I don't have any. :(

Some I will try those, any idea if they will be chewy?

Baws! I want to make some but have no chocolate chips... Is that do-able?

Report
KatoPotato · 13/04/2013 17:19

Oh man imagine smarties in them??

Report
somepeople2013 · 13/04/2013 17:19

I made them the other day (same sugar situation as you!) and they were soft and chewyish when hot from the oven but hard when cold (if that makes sense!!) you can keep the dough in fridge as well - I made 3 batches over 3 nights as I love them warm!!

There's zero chocolate in this house! AIBU to want to go buy chocolate and not have any dinner so I can eat a million cookies?
