I am really craving a cookie, I'm 25 weeks pregnant and I need one.

I only have the stuff in my cupboard, I don't have brown sugar.

Please help!

What is wrong with granulated sugar? Are you diabetic?

You might be be able to make cookies without sugar but they won't taste very nice.

SchroSawMargeryDaw Sat 13-Apr-13 17:04:58

No, I just don't have any, I only have the stuff in the cupboard!

I have:

Caster sugar
Icing Sugar
Vanilla Essence
Self raising flour
I might have plain flour
White chocolate

And probably a load of other stuff, just no granulated sugar.

You can make shortbread with caster sugar, and other kinds of biscuits too. Google a few recipes.

Caster sugar is and granulated can pretty much be's just slightly finer!

You'll be fine with caster sugar. I never buy granulated for baking - just caster.

If you are making American style cookies, the correct white sugar to use is caster.

Marjorie Nooo! Shortbread is just not the same. It has to be cookieish and chocolatey. grin

Could anyone point me towards a good recipe using caster sugar? I've never actually make cookies before, only cakes.

hope that helps

This is my recipe of choice... And you can keep the dough in a cling film sausage and slice off and bake as required!

SchroSawMargeryDaw Sat 13-Apr-13 17:15:58

Kato Those look perfect but you need brown sugar and I don't have any. sad

Some I will try those, any idea if they will be chewy?

KatoPotato Sat 13-Apr-13 17:18:39

Baws! I want to make some but have no chocolate chips... Is that do-able?

KatoPotato Sat 13-Apr-13 17:19:25

Oh man imagine smarties in them??

somepeople2013 Sat 13-Apr-13 17:19:52

I made them the other day (same sugar situation as you!) and they were soft and chewyish when hot from the oven but hard when cold (if that makes sense!!) you can keep the dough in fridge as well - I made 3 batches over 3 nights as I love them warm!!

somepeople2013 Sat 13-Apr-13 17:21:35

kato - do you have any chocolate bars in? I had no chips the other day so just smashed up a chocolate bar into small chunks! was a great stress reliever grin and they were yummy

KatoPotato Sat 13-Apr-13 17:23:17

There's zero chocolate in this house! AIBU to want to go buy chocolate and not have any dinner so I can eat a million cookies?

SchroSawMargeryDaw Sat 13-Apr-13 17:23:44

I made DP go to the shops and get me smarties before I looked up the recipe, so no brown sugar. angry

Kato Send some my way!

<tries to convince DP to go and get me brown sugar>

SchroSawMargeryDaw Sat 13-Apr-13 17:24:20

Kato I don't think YABU, although never trust a pregnant person with cravings...

somepeople2013 Sat 13-Apr-13 17:24:28

No definitely not unreasonable....well I hope not cause that would make me unreasonable too!

SchroSawMargeryDaw Sat 13-Apr-13 17:25:29

Have I started something here? grin

KatoPotato Sat 13-Apr-13 17:25:38

Schro... You're local to me if I remember correctly...

SchroSawMargeryDaw Sat 13-Apr-13 17:26:11

Haha! Am I?

I'm not going to the shops for you but I could possibly keep some cookie dough. grin

somepeople2013 Sat 13-Apr-13 17:27:41
