Fishcakes

Does anybody please have a fairly easy fishcake recipe, which won't make the house smell too fishy? Not salmon and not tuna please, but have never cooked fish before. I'm usually veggie but dp loves fish and dd1 loves fishcakes, and I'm thinking it might be easy to do fishcakes for the carnivores and perhaps a smoked cheese and leek version for me?

Thank you. I think cheese and leek sounds great. Is it possible to buy the cod ready cooked maybe? The idea of cooking cod in milk makes me feel a bit squiffy (coward, i know) and presumably is quite smelly, non?

Remus rather than cooking fish in milk, you can put it in a roasting bag. Sainsburys sell then in packs of 10. You chuck the fish in, put a tag around the top and bung it it the oven. Really simple and much less smelly. (and much less washing up). I cook fish & chicken beasts/thighs etc in bags all the time now.

Smoked mackerel makes a nice fishcake and doesn't smell too fishy.

If you use tinned salmon, get skinless boneless stuff, then you don't have to faff around with it.

Thanks everybody. I think I'll try the smoked mackerel ones first.
