What kind of pastry do I use for chicken pie?

Is it puff pastry? And can I make the pie, put ready made bought puff party uncooked on top and freeze whole thing and then just defrost to cook as needed?

I'd use puff pastry, definitely.

Though I've never frozen them, this link and this link both suggest you assemble the whole pie with the uncooked pastry on top, then freeze the whole thing and you can bake from frozen.
