Healthiest drink to give my 6month old DD??

Being a mum to a beautiful growing little girl, who I am trying to teach about drinking from a sippy cup, I want the healthiest drink I can give her, sugar & junk free. I have been giving her water to start off with, I know that at some point I would like to introduce a little flavour into drinks. The other day while shopping at my local Asda I picked up some melon chunks with the intentions of putting them through the juicer and then adding the juice to her sippy cup. My DD didn't enjoy it one bit and pulled faces I have never seen her pull...
Can anyone give me any tips on the healthiest drinking option I can give her?

Why do you want to flavour her drinks?

Water and milk are the healthiest things you can give her, if she is happy drinking them no reason to give her anything else.

Water is fine. No need to add anything. Smile

Coconut water is supposed to be great, you can get it in some supermarkets round here.

Just water!

I sometimes dilute apple juice, about 1/3-1/3 apple juice to water, for my 17 month old and 4 yo, but they both mostly drink water or milk.

Brush her teeth well though if giving juice in a sippy cup or bottle. It pools around the bottom of the teeth.

Water or milk. Juice is not good for teeth.

I'd stick to water or milk for as long as possible - no need for babies to have anything else. I'd just focus on introducing flavour and texture through food, not through drinks.

Sorry, I meant 1/4 to 1/3 apple juice to water.

At 6 months why not just stick to milk and water?

Water or milk. Don't need to add any flavour.

For a 6 month old, definitely just a little water with meals and lots of milk. Once she's a toddler then maybe some diluted fruit juice now and again.

Why would you want to flavour her water if she's drinking it well without? Confused

water only - you can introduce flavours through food/ weaning

Water water water!

My Dad asked if he could let DS, then 8mo, if he could have a sip of his oj and I said fine - just as he could have a sliver of my chocolate; he doesn't have juice as a main drink. DS spat it out!

Agree with the others, just offer water or her usual milk. She'll get used to drinking water with her meals and it will become her first choice. It's he mst healthy drink you can get, provided you live in a country with safe drinking water of course Smile

Mine has water, milk or - if we want her to poo within the hour - smoothie. They don't miss what they've never had.

Water on it's own is healthiest.

Followed by milk.

Thanks for all the answers.... I had bought Heinz baby apple juice which was for 4m+ but my sister advised me against it so that went down the sink!
I'm happy sticking to water just now but I just mean when she is older.... I think I will put different fruits through the juicer so that I know exactly what's in her sippy cup.

thing with juice is that it is processed, it has gone through a process to get to be a drink instead of a fruit and this has taken the fiber out and left a juice drink filled with sugar but no fiber which is also needed.

As others have said water is a great drink

give your dc fruit and she may pull faces you have never seen but keep offering the same fruit and she will get used to the flavors - this is of course when she is ready to wean

Honestly, you are just better sticking to water and milk. You have years and years ahead of you where you will be badgered for juice 'jooooce mummmmyyyyy....!', don't worry about starting earlier than you need.

She will be getting all the new different tastes/textures from weaning, don't worry about her drinks. TBH for her teeth I'd keep her away from juice for as long as possible. My eldest is starting school in September and still isn't regularly allowed juice, water is so much better for them.

I agree with those saying to stick with water. DD is almost 3 and she only drinks milk or water.
