yeast free but like Marmite/Bovril - does such a thing exist?

oh its basically just anchovy butter. Except he's dairy-free, so it woukd have to be anchovy Pure grin

Gentlemans relish - hadnt thought of that - will look up ingredients. They do a yeast free marmitey type spread in Australia called Vege Spread which would be ideal, but there doesnt seem to be any way of getting it here sad

Bovril def still contains beef and yeast! And the chicken one contains beef, yeast and chicken.

What about something with anchovy for that salty/umami taste? Either gentlemans relish, or concoct your own?

Or using seaweed in a spread?

I have a feeling that vegemite (aussie version) is not yeast (not sure why I think that but have a feeling)

is bovril still beef extract? I have an idea it's now of a marmitey ilk but have never looked into it (as veggie)

I was also going to say miso - I use it quite a lot to give soups, stews a bit of ooomph!

Am not sure if it is yeast free, however.

Yes, miso would be good

You can make it into a soup or even dip raw veggies on it

have you thought of miso paste?
it's fermented (so I suppose there is some yeast or something involved but presumably not bakers yeast)
sometimes soya based or barley- have never heard of it used as a spread but you add it to soups etc or make a hot drink with it- it's very savoury

DS2 has become addicted to Bovril - unfortunately it's shown that he's intolerant to yeast. He's autistic, so stopping him eating it is going to be very difficult. Can anyone think of an alternative that would give him a similar salty, savoury hit?

Not easy, as he is also gluten and dairy intolerant. Have also kept him off nuts, though am considering trying a nut or seed butter.
