Just cooked beef with the pad bit stuck to the bottom, is it safe to eat?

Just started to cook my joint of beef, put it in the oven in a rush and left the pad bit (the bit that soaks up the blood) on the bottom of it, cooked it for about half an hour, went to put the potaoes in and spotted it (as it has swelled up), pealed it off, removed any juices and rinced out the baking tray. Have now put it back in the oven. Will it be ok?

The pad bit had those bead things in it that swell up when they get wet.


I dont want to have to chuck it away as it cost aq fortune (our new years day treat).

Done it loads. Just chuck the pad and enjoy the meat.
If you are a bit concerned, you could slice off the part that was in contact with the meat;.

I'm sure it will be fine, specially since you have removed any juices and given it a rinse. I assume it hadn't split open and poured the little bead things all over the meat?

Thank you, havn't told dh (what he doesnt know wont hurt him) grin, i'm sure it will be fine, its smells good.

Couldnt see any beads on the meat (there were a few in the juices).

dh once cooked pork with the pad thing left stuck on - and then served it that way too - to assembled family (was an Easter day lunch with all the inlaws)

they are still all alive more's the pity and, crucially, none the wiser, despite several cleared plates (no idea what they thought they were eating!)

I think as long as you've rinsed them all off it will be fine...

I've done that too without worrying about it. Only half an hour-thats nothing.

I've done it a few times too and once I've even served meat up after it had been roasting over a melting knife handle as it somehow got into the roasting tin?

and not forgetting polysterene pizza bases.....

I did that xmas day, I found it when cutting the meat, we don't seem to have had any illness from it.

Yup just done this myself with a joint of pork😱😱relieved to see others have done the same with no ill effects🤣🤣
