DSD has been making it at home for a while (she was curious after seeing it mentioned so often in US shows) and has just made it for us for New Year's Day breakfast.

Yum! :o

We just had it with a bit of sugar, but I'd love some topping ideas please?

As an aside, can you get cinnamon sugar in England?

Specialist shops might sell it, but it's very easy to make your own - just mix sugar and cinnamon - I guess a ratio of about 3 parts sugar to 1 cinnamon would be about right.

Thanks :) I'm not actually that keen on cinnamon as a flavour but I love the cinnamon square cereal as it's so sugary Blush

We have it savoury rather than sweet. Good toddler food Smile

I sprinkle some mixed herbs with the egg and kids have with toms and cucumber maybe some tom sauce as a treat. I have hp sauce with mine.

I have it with cinnamon, blueberries, raspberries and icing sugar!

It's got to be plain with HP sauce.

Or maybe some beans.

With bacon and mushrooms and sausage on the side.

Damn it if DH wasn't making a full roast beef dinner for lunch I would be asking him to do this!

Just have it plain covered in ketchup. Perfection!!

Shinyshoes1 - the posh name for Eggy Bread.

I spread marmite on mine - delish.
Also good with bacon, but not averse to a bit of sugar either.

We always cook French toast on Brownie sleepovers. You'd be amazed at how much little girls can get through!

Good old eggy bread, perfect on its own with a pinch of salt :)

Hulababy · 01/01/2013 10:27

I don't like it sweet. Savoury and just plain old eggy bread - yum!

It's our usual Sunday breakfast, except we call it Fireman Bread.

Aww that's sweet, is there a reason for its name?

Oh it's lovely.

Just mix some cinnamon and some sugar in a bowl and sprinkle over, or out in one of those shaker things.

I like it as:

plain old eggy bread with mushrooms and HP sauce

French toast with orange juice as well as egg (and cream if any knocking around)

Indian style with chopped chilli and coriander etc

Make a banana sandwich, then dip in egg and fry. Known as monkey toast in the US. Serve with maple syrup. Bacon optional. Wait quietly for heart attack.

Another vote for cooking smoked streaky bacon until it is cremated, and then cook the french toast in the bacon fat. Then serve with warm maple syrup.

Yum.
