I cook loads of things in mine too; sausage casserole, chilli, curry, lamb with lemon, garlic, anchovies and white wine, beef in red wine, macaroni cheese.... I also cook my mince, gravy and veg for a shepherds pie in the slow cooker first then put it in a baking dish after with the mash. It stops the mince from being squeaky IYSWIM. With sausages it's just down to preference with browning them.

I've done the BBC Veggie sweet potato and spinach dhal in mine today- its beautiful- no Browning no fuss and delicious six hours later, although I needed more spice added its perfect for dc and I can add extra cayenne to mineGrin
I add water by eye though, just to cover, as following recipe would leave it too watery.

minestrone is also nice, just add pasta to slow cooker when you get home, thirty mins later dinner is done.

How do you make macaroni cheese in a slow cooker? Do you have to cook Pasta first??

You don't need to fry or brown anything first.

Get a piece of lamb, a shoulder (or half) just put the meat in, switch on and leave - you will never cook lamb in an oven again.

Lamb with lemon sounds interesting, can you share the recipe?

Hi bigbad. I usually use shoulder of lamb. I pop it in the slow cooker, add the juice of 1 lemon, 1 glass of medium-dry white wine, 4 whole garlic cloves, a sprig of rosemary and then lay the (tinned) anchovies over the top of the lamb. It is delicious.

Oh and meant to add for BakingNovice, the mac cheese. Throw a whole packet of uncooked macaroni pasta in the slow cooker, 150g of melted butter, 2 beaten eggs, 2 pints of skimmed or whole milk, 200-250g grated cheddar, 1tsp of paprika and pinch of salt and pepper. Cook for 4 hours.

I would have been so up for the mac and cheese last week, we had it sat night for the first time in ages, it was lovely, then dd2 threw it up all over her bed at 11.30 at night, gone right off the stuff now.
Casserole is smelling gorgeous.
