I need a new food processor thingy - any recommendations?

My food processor died last night and the chopper bowl on my hand blender also chose last night to crack and become useless so I need a replacement.

I want something that has:

• dough hooks for kneading bread that is too sloppy to do by hand
• chopping and beating for cake mixes and pastry etc
• a jug blender for cocktails making soup
• a mini chopper for making pesto, salsa verde etc.

A stand mixer would be nice so I can add other ingredients to the same bowl, for example after creaming butter and sugar for a cake. My current food processor has the blade around a central funnel bit, which makes this impossible.

I don't want it to be out all the time as my kitchen isn't very big, so it needs to be quite easy to get in and out of the cupboard.

It doesn't need grating, slicing or whisking options, as I still have the whisk attachment for my stick blender.

Any recommendations? Or don't buys?

I heart my Magimix.
No jug blender but you can blend soups still.
Mine has a mini chopper that sits inside the larger bowl for small amounts.

mrsdimples does the Magimix have a central blade around a hole type thingy? And does the mini chopper that sits inside the main bowl keep things contained? My current food processor has one, but it doesn't seal well and I always end up with twice the washing up

gwendoline is the Prospero as good as MN would lead me to believe? Is it robust enough to cope with everyday use? Is the bowl big enough for a decent amount of mix? The Amazon reviews hint towards that not being the case.

I have three bits of kit.

Magimix food processor for dough-kneading, pastry-making, heavy-duty chopping, grating, slicing and blending
K-Mix hand held mixer for cake-making, egg whisking
Braun Multipractic hand blender (which includes a mini processor attachment) for soup whizzing (in the pan) and chopping small quantities.

Prospero is brilliant. I've just this morning made a batch of 36 cupcakes (in one go!) and then a lovely buttercream icing which came out very smooth and light.

The food processor is great, it is excellent for grating and chopping, the blender is also useful,

So glad I didn't get anything else as the prospero can be left out and is quite unobtrusive but there whenever I need it.

Sorry, only just checked this back.

The blade is a central one. It sits an the bottom of an up turned cup, type of thing, which covers the hole.

My previous food processor the hole was exposed if you lifted the bowl up, not so with the magimix as the blade cup thingy covers it.


I've not used the mini chopper much, but I would say you have to wash the lot.

My major downer with magimix is only having one 'bowl'. So if you're making a cake, you have to wash the bowl after making the cake, to make the icing etc.

Another bowl is on the wish list. But the same would be true of a stand mixer, though less parts to wash I suppose. A Kitchenaid is in my wish list too, but I'd only get one with two bowls.
