Celeriac puree

Is it nice?
Celeriac puree seems to feature in most cookery programmes these days.
Has anyone made it?
Is it easy/hard to make?
Is it lovely? Or nowt special?
I've never bought celeriac and don't think I've ever had it anywhere.

I love celeriac

I just make it like mashed potato. Anything you do with potato you can do with celeriac

i particularly like it raw and grated with a vinaigrette and parsley. quite nice mixed with grated carrot too

yum, must buy some tomorrow

Thanks you ESE.
I'm going to buy and try.
Is it a bit aniseedy in flavour? For some reason I imagine it tastes like fennel.

I hate fennel!

I can't really describe it TBH. It is really good with a grainy mustard dressing.

Try it cooked and raw

It's lovely - tastes somewhere between fennel and celery.

If you purée, try adding a potato for body.

Doing it finely grated with mustardy mayonnaise is a French classic called remoulade I think.

Also makes a lovely soup.

I like to make celeriac mash with leeks - it counter the aniseedy note a little. With lots of butter and black pepper.

I have a celeriac lurking in the fridge at the moment. I don't puree it but cook it until tender and roughly crush it with lots of black pepper and a knob of butter... cheese if feeling flash. Tastes mostly like mild celery. Lovely.
