I know they are naff but the dcs would really like one for Christmas (dd thinks it is called a chocolate mountain :) ) Any recommendations? Do they come with the chocolatey mixture or do you make it yourself?

I ended up just getting a chocolate fondue set instead because you need a ton of chocolate to get it to work its been a few years since i looked into them tho

HATE them, a friend bought our DD one for her birthday a few years ago, it was used once and put in the bin!! If ever I hate anyone enough I will buy them a chocolate fountain. We had to use a mountain of chocolate, oil (yuck) and most of it was wasted washing the bloody thing. Most of the kids were feeling sick after they had three or four dips, it was very sickly. I would definately go with a fondue as there is much less waste. Next time they wanted to do something chocolatey we just melted a bar in the microwave they they dipped from the bowl, it was just enough, mess was minimal and cleaning easy!

We were bought one as a present. It comes out about once a year for parties. You need loads of chocolate to make it work so it is only really worth it if there are lots of people.

They are a pig to clean and take up valuable cupboard space (mine lives hidden away on top of the tumble drier so the kids don't pester for it.

We don't find it sickly though, you control what chocolate you put in it so that will depend on the mixture. We normally have fruit for dipping.

I was bought one as a present. Only been used once as it takes masses of chocolate to make it work and didn't taste great tbh.

The reviews on amazon said to use chocolate and cream instead of oil,, wonder if that would be any better. I have to get one even if it only get used once a year, have promised now that we will have a chocolate fountain instead of tea on Christmas Day.
