How do you make buttercream to go in a sponge cake please?

It's a bit ambitious posting this while the cake is baking, but I'm hoping it will rise enough to cut in two to put buttercream in the middle!

I did the 6oz of everything and 3 eggs recipe for a sponge cake and put it in a 8 inch sandwich tin, so here's hoping...

Anyway, I think it's just butter and caster sugar, is that right? Also not sure of quantity.

Yes, although you could use icing sugar, which would be easier. Just add it to butter until it tastes nice.

standard recipe is 2x icing sugar to 1x butter (or marg at Hotel Sinclair, taste disguised with a drop of vanilla essence) Use an electric beater if you are making a lot - much easier

Just got the cake out of the oven....looks fab....but forgot to grease the tin....pile of crumbs now cooling...
