Please help me rescue my chutney!

I made chutney for the first time ever yesterday. I used my mum's recipe, for mango chutney. It tastes exactly right, but is very runny. I thought I had followed the recipe exactly, but obviously didn't cook it for long enough to thicken/set.

If I bung it all back in the pan and boil it for a while longer will that work? Or do I need to add something to thicken it? How will I know when it is ready?

Thanks :)

I'd put it back in and try reducing it down a bit on a low heat? When mind has been too thick I've put it back and added water. Hth

Keep simmering it until it thickens up.

My first ever batch was too runny but i found out later from a friend that you just have to keep it on the heat until it's reached the right consistancy rather than take it off when you reach the time stated in the recipe (it took over 2 hours longer than expected).

ah, thanks. The recipe just said 'simmer until it's thickened, about 1 1/2 hours'. Well, it had thickened a bit, but clearly not enough!

Just let it simmer away for as long as it takes. But, if you can't keep nursing it, put in slow cooker and wedge open lid a bit (this is important) and leave til thick - check after 2-3 hours.
Also, with chutney making, open the windows! I've got an extractor fan, but it's still pretty pungent!👩‍🍳

I would definitely put it back on the heat and reduce it down a bit. I put mine in the fridge once it had cooled down and this seemed to help to.
