We usually have potato in some form and peas.
I do not have any potatoes at home, but I do have 30 fish fingers.

What can I serve them with? Is there something obvious that I'm missing? I'm stuck on potatoes or possibly bread (like a fish finger sandwich, though don't have any bread in either Blush ).

I'd be grateful for any inspiring ideas :)

Do you have pasta? You could do a cheesy pasta bake or a a cold pasta salad with chopped raw veg, peas and some mayo.

I serve them with any veg tbh.
Peas, beans, carrots, sometimes do them with cold salad veg - cherry toms, cucumber, pepper etc. And then a piece of bread on the side.

I would just look at what you have and serve it! I sometimes serve weird combinations because it has to be eaten; its what we have! So for example it would not be unheard for me to just cook the fishfingers and serve with some soup that needed to be eaten!

A fish sandwich of some sorts is really nice / or a wrap (ala Leons?)

You could do any type of mash with root veg as well.

You could cook up some rice, add whatever vegetables you have and then chop up the fishfingers and mix with this. Or just rice as a side dish instead of the potatoes - Leon once again serves a fish finger on rice and peas as a childrens dish .... really yummy ....

What do you have!

Oh, I was thinking ff sarnie with veg on the side. how about FFs on top of savory vegetable rice (if you've got veg and rice....)? That might be OK. Can't quite imagine them with pasta.

Oh, I know.... surely 2 days after shrove tuesday you haven't really eaten up all the eggs - if you don't have wraps make pancakes. FFs and tomato K in a pancake could be quite tasty...

I need to get away from this fishfingers&potato mindset, obviously!

Great suggestions, I can put together a selection of veg, and I actually have that tiny pasta that looks like rice which, now I think about it, would go really well.
I think I might even have a tin of beans in the cupboard too.

I've been a ill in bed with a cold for 2 days so have not been shopping, hence the slightly bizzare stuff that I have in stock.

I love MN - you can ask the most inane question and get proper, useful responses :)

Oh, and as an aside, I keep reading everyone's "FFs" as FFS, not an abbreviated fishfingers, which is making me :o

Baked beans. That's what mine have. Or smiley faces and sweetcorn.

Smiley faces? Is this something to eat or do you grin a lot while serving it up?

Have a look in the freezer section next time you are shopping. They are apparently 'all natural mashed potatos' with nothing added Hmm. They're a hit with fussy dinner guests the children bring home from school.

Fishfinger Casserole (stick with me....)

Put 10 fishfingers in oven proof dish.
Scatter some sliced mushrooms over the top.
Mix one can campbells condensed mushroom soup with half the can milk and half wine. Pour over.
Bake in oven 180c, for 45 mins, stirring halfway through.
Serve with veg (and a baked potato if storecupboard allows.)

I know it shouldn't work but it does - the breadcrumb coating mixes with the sauce to thicken and you have all the nice white fish in creamy mushroomy sauce mmmm.

Mine like their fingers in pitta breads.

Sometimes I serve them with tinned spaghetti hoops in tomato sauce, or baked beans.

Gosh, I haven't had anything cooked in condensed mushroom soup since DHs aunty died. And never FFs!

I think I may be the only perptrator of FFs ... I typed it , snurked, and did it again Grin
