Superquick ideas for children's tea time needed please

i am after some super speedy recipe ideas please for tea times when I haven't got enough time my children are famished and can't wait the 45 mins it would take me to do a "proper" healthy tea for them. Wholemeal pasta with a tomato and cheese sauce ("not again mum!") is not going to cut the mustard. Ungrateful critters ;)

They are 3.8 and 7, neither are especially adventurous and I do have to hide veg where I can just to get it into them, but if anyone has a few bright ideas I would be so grateful!

This isn't going to solve the veg problem, but eggy bread was always my standby supper for ds when hungry.

I'll be watching with interest. DD is eating noodles, peas and tinned mackerel as I type, but she's only 2.6 and not very discerning! Doubt it'd tempt a 7 yr old!

Omlette always a winner here.....

Can't really help as my DS had pasta every night last week Grin.

Can you do picnic suppers (an old Mumsnet tip Grin) ie: a selection of cheese/chopped raw veg/olives/pieces of ham/hard boiled egg/chopped fruit/yogurt/cake etc? I have never believe that food has to be 'hot' to be healthy and nutritious. My DS loves that type of meal and thinks it is a treat !

And those new microwave jacket potatoes are actually really nice, so those, they take a few minutes in the microwave and whatever toppings.

I hide spinach (use frozen) and chopped up mushrooms in omelette or eggy bread for no brainer lunches

Boil pasta such as penne, add frozen peas for last couple of mins. When cooked add lump of butter, teaspoon or so of marmite and some grated cheese.

Very popular in our house!

I have had a revamp of teatime round here as I was making myself quite stressed always having to do a 'proper' meal. So now as long as the plate contains carb/protein/veg plus something with fruit for pudding I no longer worry if it goes together or is hot.

Recently we have had:
Pasta salad, hard boiled eggs, salad veg
Rice salad, mackerel, broc&carrots
Boiled eggs on toast with soup
Cheese & beans on toast/cheese & left over veg chili on toast
Tuna salad with bread
Fishcakes (bought) with lots of veg

Then I do stuff like fresh or tinned fruit for pudding with yogurt and toast after if they are still hungry.

The kids are happier with what they call 'bits' most of the time anyway.

Also if I do veg chili one day I do wraps with left over sauce the next so I only cook 'properly' once for two days.

Then weekends I do proper cooking - sometimes!

My two are teenagers now and eat whatever they are given, and always eat with dp and I but things that used to go down well when they were younger included:

rice noodles (just soak in boiling water) with edamame, tofu and soy sauce

omelette and salad (or frozen peas) and a piece of crusty bread (can add things like mushrooms, ham, cheese, chopped peppers etc to the omelete to make more of a meal)

yes to eggy bread - with cherry tomatoes, carrot sticks etc

veggie hotdog sausages (take just minutes in the microwave) with those little ready made Yorkshire puddings and some steamed vege

pitta bread pizzas, with salad (or just cucumber and carrot sticks and cherry tomatoes)

I do like the idea of "bits" that they can graze from. Omelette is likely to be received well too- thanks for ideas so far!

Just remembered another one they liked - bought falafel, stuffed into pitta halves with diced cucumber, a bit of lettuce and a bit of yoghurt with a dash of mint sauce stirred into it.

Poo-poo platter. Similar to "bits", no idea when or why it got the name but it means nibbles - crackers, cheese, ham, boiled egg, olives, pickled onions, gherkins, peppers, cucumber, dips, that sort of thing.

Bacon and eggs (with mushrooms and toms generally here)
Noodles
Soup and crusty bread
"on toast" - beans, scrambled eggs, cheese - anything really
salad

Or I have a cooking marathon at the weekend and pot it up in batches in the freezer to microwave when I need it.

Tuna and sweetcorn burgers www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/5863/tuna-sweetcorn-burgers
Pitta pizzas www.waitrose.com/home/recipes/recipe_directory/p/15-minute-pitta-pizzas.html
Homemade pot noodle www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2768/proper-spicy-pot-noodle
This uses frozen peas which I always have in the freezer www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/pesto-gnocchi-with-peas-and-pine-nuts/ and gnocchi which is much quicker to cook than pasta. Only takes 10 minutes.
This recipe takes 15 minutes from start to finish and uses minimal ingredients. I use mozzarella instead of goats cheese www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4404/easy-stuffed-peppers.
This takes 10 minutes www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/11690/10minute-couscous-salad It can be prepared whenever you’ve got a spare few minutes as it doesn’t need to be eaten hot.

Jacket potatoes from the frozen aisle in the supermarket with cheese and beans( we love beans in my house)

Sliced veg or fruit and bread sticks with dips( like hummus, choc spread etc)

Couscous with stuff( chicken, Dried fruit etc. Personally I hate the stuff but some people love it)

Some good ideas on this thread even if old!

We make the baked potatoes, mash the middle and freeze some extra so it is quick.

Zombie thread but made me laugh. I wrote on it with a different name 7 years ago. Opened it today from active threads to get ideas for the now two children who have remained just as fussy and difficult to feed! Same meals as when they were 2.
