children aged 1-3 shouldnt have more than 2g of salt per day (around 0.8g sodium)

This is from the Food Standards Agency website

my rule of thumb is about 0.5g per year over 1

under 6 months 0
6 - 12 months (0.1) (ie no salt but the teeneist amount occasionaly wont kill them)
12 - 18 months 0.5g
18 months - 2 year 1g
3 year 1.5g
4 year 2 g
5 year 2.5g
6 year 3g

the reality is i never use salt in anything i cook for the children anyway, and i make pretty much all of it fresh as well, so most of the food i feed the kids really has very little salt.

exceptions may be a bit of bisto gravy, or crisps at a party, or sausages, but we do have 'good' ones so i hope hey arnt that salty!
7 year 3.5g
8 year 4
9 year 4.5 g
10 year 5g
11 year 5.5g
12 year (when almost adult size) the adult allowance of 6g

i've become really cautious of added salt in food lately... aiming for less than 5g a day for myself!
