Frozen Mince....

Love the idea of frozen mince you can use straight from the freezer but find it very fatty... i was wondering if anyone had any idea's how to freeze mince so that when i took it out of the freezer i could cook with it straight away ( i always find if i freeze mince it becomes a block until defrosted!!!)

I tend to use blocks of mince straight from the freezer, just put it on a low heat in a non stick pan and keep turning it over, it soon thaws out enough to separate with a wooden spoon. Alternatively you could break it up into smaller chunks and freeze in a plastic bag?

Thanks bertie, wasn't too sure if i could cook striaght from frozen if not already frozen for you!! (if that makes sense) It's for the kids, so freezing little bags of the stuff would probably be the best idea :)

You do have to keep turning it over or stirring to make sure it doesn't get burnt and thaws evenly, but once it is thawed it is such small pieces that it definitely cooks through. It's only really things like chicken breasts you need to watch which you can't tell if they are still frozen (or thawed but not cooked) in the middle. But then I have been known to defrost diced chicken by putting it in the oven from frozen which half cooks, half defrosts it and then immediately using it in a dish which requires it to be fried in a pan for a curry or whatever.
