I have just been asked to make a giant cupcake for the end of ballet party. I love cooking etc but cake making is not my strongest - small cakes okay but big beasts such as this - is a different matter!

Anyone got a decent fail safe recipe I could use?

Have a pyrex bowl I could use to cook it in - will that work??

Also have thought when decorating it I will use chocolate fingers for the "paper" case round the bottom.

Would it still be fresh if I make it today, ice it tomorrow and then the children eat it on Saturday??

Oh and it needs to be chocolate too!

Needs to feed at least 31 children plus about 10 adults

You can buy special silicon moulds, think Lakeland sell them.

Eek! Quite expensive.

Much cheaper here, but no time to buy before Saturday!

They're being a bit unrealistic in their expectations aren't they? At such short notice, I would make do with a normal cake! It should still be fresh Saturday.

My local cakeporn shop rents out cake tins - might be worth looking into...

i don't know if they do online orders but our local bakery make huge cupcakes that look very tasty indeed. not sure if i could justify one all to myself! you could try and see if they'll ship you one.

Thanks guys, but really need to get on with it today, I have found a children's cake book that does bowl cakes, will make 2 of them and fingers crossed they should be okay.

Have also thought that I will get my 2DD's who are doing the ballet to decorate it - then they can get all the glory for it!!!!! wink
